ALESHA MAURY, N.D.
WHY I DO WHAT I DO
Most people naturally think that my health problems are what lead me to go into the field of naturopathic medicine. This actually isn’t the case. Here is my story:

I was born in Dallas (Go Texas!), and was there until the end of elementary school. That’s when my parents moved my sister and I to Florida, where I then went to middle, high school, and undergrad (Go Gators!). I decided in middle school that I wanted to be a doctor – a conventional M.D. because that is the only kind that I knew. I recall my dad telling me in high school: “for someone who wants to be a doctor, you sure do hate taking medicine.” It was true, I would literally try every home remedy that I could find (I had a book of remedies) whenever some illness came along before I would turn to conventional approaches.

Fast-forward to senior year of undergrad. My world was rocked as my dad was diagnosed with an aggressive type of brain tumor. Over the course of a year I watched him go through debilitating surgery, chemo, and radiation. He ultimately passed away. As I processed his death, I began to ponder why people get brain tumors, and well as cancer in general. I was in the middle of applying to conventional medical schools during this time.
The more I learned, the more I started to change the products that I used, and the food that I ate. Along the way, I learned of the field of naturopathic medicine. I realized that I could still go to medical school and become a doctor, but focus at a naturopathic medical school on using drugs only when necessary while getting to the root cause and utilizing a host of natural, less invasive therapies when possible. This revelation altered my career course as well as my life.
Doing this work for over 12 years now, I have never looked back, and consider it an honor when I partner with clients who are seeking holistic methods to address their health and reach a breakthrough.

I'M NOT JUST THE PRESIDENT, I'M A CLIENT
I relate to Sy Sperling’s famous statement: “Remember, I’m not only the Hair Club president, but I’m also a client.” It encapsulates my perspective as a Naturopathic Doctor, and as a Wellness Consultant in the health journeys of women all over the country who have worked with me. I’m a part of the sisterhood of women who have dealt with years-long chronic ailments that have seemed at times like Mt. Everest to climb. I lived with years of:

-
Fatigue in undergrad that had me napping for 3-4 hours daily
-
Painful periods so severe that I was often in the urgent care getting injections of pain reliever in one hip, and a medication for vomiting in the other hip
-
Recurrent kidney stones that at times seemed humanly impossible to pass
-
Recurrent urinary tract infections that were constantly resistant to antibiotics
-
Chronic constipation that was akin to childbirth
-
Chronic yeast infections that flourished on my poor diet
-
Uterine fibroids that were larger than my uterus
-
Stage 4 endometriosis that caused more misery than anything else and ultimately lead to surgery
-
Weight gain (40 lbs) over a few short years that made me feel unrecognizable
Not only have my experiences equipped me with a deep understanding of the ups and downs and dos and don’ts of recovery; but they have also given me an empathy and compassion that many in the field of health and wellness have only read about. I know what it means to barely make it through the day, but not have any visible signs of an illness that garner understanding and sympathy from others. I know pain. I know hopelessness. I know suffering.

Praise from a former client:
"...Alesha looked at my overall wellness to find the underlying issues causing my symptoms. For the last 8 years since I have been following the recommendations specialized for me, my health has done a 360-degree turnaround for the better. I rarely get migraines, maybe once or twice a year, and far less intense. My mood support and energy levels are normal and my digestive pains eliminated.

Alesha's approach to whole body healing is not forceful, but encouraging. You know she really cares about you and it makes you want to stick with the health plan she gives. I will continue to recommend Alesha to anyone in need of holistic healing because I trust she will go above and beyond for your situation to provide the best care."
